Anastasia is a bold, strong normal. She's the biggest of our females and a great and consistent eater. She took a little while to get used to us, having spent the first 3 months we had her on a hunger strike, before finally getting used to things. She laid a clutch of nothing but slugs in the 2022 breeding season, but did much better for 2023, laying 12 eggs first and then a second clutch of 4 more. It was this second clutch of 4 eggs that we had paired her with Eggroll and discovered that she is het albino because 3 of the 4 turned out to be albino condas!
She paired with Phoenix for 2024, and once again laid 12 great-looking eggs.
This year we paired Ana with Dmitry, both of whom are normals, for her first clutch. We had some concerns that most of our other males were too small for this year, so we didn't want to take the chance that she would eat them. Dmitry is is a whopping 180g, so we felt confident he would be fine lol.
Ana produced 12 seemingly viable eggs with 1 slug. Of those 12, 11 hatched successfully. They are all "just normals" but these guys are so chonky and full of personality already! So far most of them are also showing to be good eaters, so that's one of the most important parts.
Ana also gave us a second clutch of just 4 eggs. We had a feeling she might, and she was in great shape even after the first clutch, so we re-paired her with Eggroll. So at this point, we have two possibilities. These 4 "extra" eggs could be all normals, in which case, Dmitry will have done it again! Or, they could be condas, which means Eggroll successfully snuck some in there, and it also would mean they are 100% het snow. Time will tell on these guys.
The holdback plan is to keep 2 female normals this year, either from Natasha or Anastasia. If we end up with 4 condas from the second clutch, we will keep two of them, but once again: time will tell. :)
